Understanding Out-of-Network (OON) Benefits

Sometimes, the best provider for your specific needs may not be in your network. Or, you might have a strong preference for a particular therapist due to their expertise or therapeutic approach.

Out-of-Network (OON) benefits allow you to receive care from providers who are not part of your insurance plan’s network. While this might mean higher out-of-pocket costs, it offers flexibility in choosing a therapist who best meets your needs, even if they aren’t in your insurance network.

Important Information About OON Benefits

Although OON benefits let you choose your therapist, here are a few things to keep in mind:

  • Higher Costs: You might pay more out-of-pocket compared to using an in-network provider.
  • Upfront Payment: You’ll need to pay for each therapy session at the time of service and then get reimbursed by your insurance. I am not set up to bill insurance companies directly for OON care, but some providers may offer this service.

Will your insurance pay OON benefits? I don’t know, but you can call your insurance provider (the telephone number is on your insurance card) to request a quote for OON benefits.
